After the latest operating system update from Windows, the license model from this version onward has completely changed by Microsoft.
Due to the impact of this change, we hereby provide you with some insights.

 

 

Licenses based on CPU

When you would purchase a system including Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2016, the price will be determined through its CPU. The OS price for a fanless model would be lower than a permormance model. There is no difference between the two in usage.

Below we will explain what this meand for our FEC POS terminals.

    Be aware, the POS terminals with an Atom D525 CPU, such as AP-3435 and BP325, are not compatible with this new OS.

Things you might want to know!

POS Ready

With the introduction of this new OS model, the 'POS READY' option has expired and will not be available anymore. As of now Windows 10 IoT 2016 will be the OS we will be using.

LTSB

For further delivery, AKAM chose to use the LTSB version. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB 2016 is its full name. LTSB is an acronym for: 'Long Time Servicing Branche'. Below we present you with a short summary of its features.

  • LTSB has a lifecycle of 10 years, which means that crictical updates will be provided until 13-10-2026.
  • In contrast with the consumer CB, LTSB will not get any feature updates. Security updates and bug fixes will be updated.
  • In de LTSB versie ontbreken de Store, Cortana, Edge en andere Apps.
Language

Our Windows 10 image will be provided with the choice of Dutch, English, French or German. Because it's a Windows Enterprise license, you will be able to download other languages as well.

Previous Windows versions

The licensing model from previous versions will remain unchanged. This means that when you choose a Windows 7 OS, you would still have the distinction between POS Ready 7 and Windows 7 Pro.
